The First Night!

Well, we have experienced quite a lot since we have returned home with the little guy. I am in the midst of giving breastfeeding a fair shot. It hurts like a banchee! When I see him smacking his lips tears come to my eyes. The latch is the most important part and I am really trying. He s a little porker. Last night we went to bed around 10pm. We put Carter in the pack n play on his back to sleep. I could not fall asleep because I was so worried that he would suffocate (SIDS). He is now rolling himself to his side so I am worried that he will roll over completely. He was fussy all through the night. We slept in increments of 30-45 minutes. During the night, Carter had 3 poopy diapers. While filling these diapers it sounded like a firehose. We were amazed. Together Bob and I were changing the diapers in bed because I can't get in and out of bed very well yet. When we were changing a diaper, he wasn't finished dropping a deuce and did it on our sheets. I was so stinkin tired and thirsty. I grabbed the cup that they had given us at the hospital and walked to the kitchen, filled it with ice and water, and then went back to bed. Early this morning Bob came to my side to grab a drink of water and I heard him spit out the water onto the floor. Carter's bath sponge was in the cup and I didn't realize it before filling it with ice and water. We laughed our butts of at this because we were so tired. Last night was very rough and we can only hope it gets better. We have a pediatrician appointment with Dr. McIntyre tomorrow morning. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for putting the pics up! So sincerely adorable! Hang in there with the breastfeeding. It WILL get better. Honestly. I had to use a shield and that helped a ton for a bit. I got 13 weeks out of these ladies and then pumped up until a month ago. Addie was TERRIBLE about latching on. It's worth it though. He'll thank you in the long run and so will your check book! I'm sure you have this already but if not, the Medela lanolin helps a ton. I also found that the football hold gave me a little more control with positioning. We had to giggle with the poopy sheet incident, you just never know what's going to happen next with the little ones. Not sure if you have access to a 2nd hand store but we started Addie in her pack and play and we honestly think it was just too big for her. So we switched to a basinette, purchased at a 2nd hand store for $30 and that helped quite a bit. It appeared to feel more cozy and there was less room to move about. We just have to tell you, we are loving the new little life you brought into your family and reading about your experiences. We're holding back on a visit until life becomes a bit more routine for you so just let us know when you are up for meeting Addison and a little weekend company.
Love,
Mic, Deb and Addison

Again,... cute pics! There's nothing like sleepin' with dad! Fun stories! Do what you can with the breastfeeding. I did all three and had problems with each one. Not to mention crying in pain!! I did it for the $$$ but sometimes just being happy when you feed is worth more! Don't feel guilty if you quit and just give it the good ol' college try! I'm sure you'll do fine! Keep the pics and stories coming!

Lovin the pics! Carter is so adorable and seems very alert. Brett too had the latching problems and never did get the hang of it. I was sure with the experience of helping people with this everyday that It would come a little easier for us....but no. So I pumped and bottle fed for 6 mths, takes more time but worth it in the end. And let me tell you Brett did not even have a little cold until after he was a year old. Try your best, if you have any questions or think I could be of any help...please call. The sheild can help but I found this even more painful. Can't wait to hear about more of your adventures. Oh and ALWAYS put a clean diaper under the baby before you removing the dirty one. And Jeremy always put a wipe over the "hose" when changing EVERY diaper, and I don't think he ever got peed on. Good Luck!
