Carter's first doctor's appointment

Today was Carter's first doctor's appointment. He weighed 7lbs. 13oz. Still 21 inches! Dr. Macintyre is our pediatrician. She is wonderful. She checked him out and said that he is very healthy and normal. As for his parents...not sure! We will go back next week to make sure that he is gaining weight and that his mama is losing hers. Today the emotions came in like a water fall. I fell asleep last night with Carter feeding in bed and got a huge kink in my neck and back. I didn't sleep at all. This morning when Bob left I started to cry and couldn't stop. Then while feeding Carter I couldn't stop crying. I decided to head to the breastfeeding support group offered through Fairview Hospital. This was just what I needed. It is a room full of new moms who are struggling with the hardships of breastfeeding. It was so great! They meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! I think that I will be heading back frequently for my sanity. Bob got to feed Carter today using a Foley cup using pumped milk. This was awesome to see him with Carter. I hope that we can do this more often.

Hang in there mama! :) I think it is great that you take advantage of all the programs that they have to offer. You'll be great. Don't forget to let Grandma help you! (Kathy I hope you are okay with Grandma, shhh..no one would ever guess!)

Ahhh....the emotions. That is probably the toughest part, but they do level out eventually. And, someday soon you will feel 'normal' again. I use the term 'normal' very loosely in your case and also in mine.

We lived on the lake when Alyssa was little and I remember looking out the window one day and seeing all the people out tanning, boating, etc. and crying, crying, crying cuz here I was stuck inside with this little booger of a thing.

The next day it was rainy and gloomy and no one was outside. I was sooooo happy!!

And that is how the emotions go.

I did fall in love with Alyssa immediately, but even though I hate to admit it, it took me a good 4 months to get used to having a baby around 24/7. Of course, I've always been a bit slow.

Also, Alyssa was bottle fed (for shame!) and so far it seems she turned out okay.

Just don't let the little guy ever start eating Reese's peanut butter cups for breakfast!!

I hate to think that Grandma Kathy is MY age or younger even...that kinda stuff really does make me feel like an old mama!

Now using her vast vocabulary Alyssa told me the other day that I am not 'old' I am 'elderly'. I know she meant well, but I was not flattered.

Email us if you need anything Sweetie...we are right down the road.

Love you bunches!
Karen (& Alyssa, too)

I figured I would just write once on here because i didn't want to go overboard...reading all about carter's birth and the stories that you already have (sponge in drink, poop on bed, pee-ing all over everyone)....each one literally brought tears to my eyes because i'm so happy that carter has arrived!! i can't believe all you had to go through for him to get here, but i know it was worth every minute. (good job bob, on the blogging too!) i love the pics and the videos! you two are the best parents carter could ask for, i have no doubt, and i know you guys will get through any tough times. grocho, good for you for going to that support group - i bet that helped a lot! hang in there! i'm thinking about you guys everyday and just can't wait to see you guys and meet carter!!! lots of love from NC, T
