Couples Getaway to Louisville

Everyone needs a getaway right?  How about one with other adults and no kids...sign us up!  We have been planning this couples getaway since February so we were so excited when the day finally arrived.  We were headed to Louisville, far enough away for an adventure but not too far from the kids.  The Truax's, and Parkers embarked on this voyage with us.

First stop was Cincinnati for lunch.  Phil and Alissa lived close by there for a few years so they were willing to show us around the city and we ate at a pretty cool brewery for lunch.

When we arrived at our hotel, Embassy Suites, in downtown Louisville.  We got all dolled up and headed down for the free managers reception for snacks and beverages!  We all clean up well!

Fourth Street Live was right across the street from our hotel.  This is a blocked off road that is lined with restaurants and bars.  We ate dinner at Gordon Biersch Brewery.  The food was delicious. Next we stopped by Howl at the Moon.

Lots of singing and dancing was had by all.

You know when my jam comes on you can guarantee that I am out on the dance floor!

We stumbled back to the hotel to sit and relax.

The next morning we headed out to the underground cavern just outside of the city to zipline. This was so stinking cool!

Group pic after being all harnessed up!

Inside the cavern it was totally dark except for some little lights and of course our head lamps.  We had great tour guides that were quite entertaining!

While you are walking from launch point to launch point the tour guides give you a little history about the cavern.  Our guide told us that if you put a little limestone mud on your face it would make your skin smooth.  Turns out I might have over done it with the facial mud...the funny thing is we had no idea what our faces looked like until Mark took a photo with a flash.

We crossed big suspension bridges throughout the cavern too!

Head lamps on!  What a blast we had doing this together.

After zip lining we were close in location to Churchill Downs, the track where they hold the Kentucky Derby.  In pure tourist fashion we decided to check it out.

You can't go to the derby without a big hat!

On the tour we were able to walk out very close to the track.

Hanging out down by the track
We ate lunch at the cafe on location and enjoyed the famous mint julep and Lilly drink that the derby is known for.  All the hype of the derby had us all planning a way to pool our money together and buy a horse to race in the derby! And then we realized we knew nothing about raising a horse.

Our next stop was Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory.

Bob and the boys were looking forward to this stop!

While we were there I was walking by the "famous bat room" and I recognized a man behind the glass. Turns out it was Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy from Modern Family).  Celebrity Sighting!

Oh how I wanted to take a photo with him but turns out he was just a little too busy.

Bob had a bat made with the boys names engraved in it.  He was like a kid in a candy shop...

Our last night in the city we ate at an amazing restaurant called Mussel and Burger Bar.  Then we walked the riverwalk late night.  Turns out it can be a little creepy there at night.  We made our last stop at the famous hotel downtown (Seelbach)

Gotta love impersonating statues!

We don't get out much!

On our voyage home we had car trouble.  Just after Kings Island while Alissa was driving, the van would not excellerate. She safely pulled us off to the side of the road where we were picked up by and Uber and tow truck and taken to a rental car place. We were all safe and together and that's all that matters.

Yep, you can't not snag a roadside selfie when your waiting for a tow truck!

We had such a fun time together on this getaway weekend.  Here's to many more trips together with this crew!
