Landon goes to safety town

With Landon entering Kindergarten this year it was finally his chance to attend Safety Town.  Carter was very excited to share all the exciting details about what he had learned last year.  This was wonderful because Landon was not looking forward to it at all.  Landon has always had someone with him wherever he goes (Carter most places, Morgan Frenk at preschool/daycare) so making new friends isn't a high priority.  This is my biggest concern when it comes to his kindergarten year.  When we arrived the first day of Safety Town, he picked a seat away from everyone at the back table. I tried to introduce him to other boys that were a little timid but that didn't help.

Everyday when I came to pick him up he seemed very happy.  He began to point out every sign we would pass…speed limit, stop sign, railroad, etc.  Thursday was a special day because they spent the day at the fire station exploring and learning all about what to do in a fire.  This was his favorite day.
Showing off his firefighter hat.  (Don't judge me by his outfit choices…this summer we are working on choosing our own clothes to wear.  A big idea is making sure they match.  A rule is that there has to be the same color on your shirt as your bottoms.  He showed me that both his shirt and shorts have green on them.  True, but the patterns are very overstimulating but that wasn't a battle worth fighting!)

Friday was graduation day which is basically shaking the hand of the police officer and getting a plastic police badge.  When we showed up to see this event he instantly told me he wasn't going to do it and he wanted to leave.  I didn't make a big deal about it because I was hoping it would blow over.  When they called his name he stood up and walked about halfway up to the officer.  Thank goodness the officer walked the rest of the way.

After all is said and done, it was a huge step for Landon to go to Safety Town without the comfort of knowing anyone else. Baby steps, right?
