Seaside, Oregon
On the last night in Medford, Oregon we came out of Texas Roadhouse and there was a smell of smoke and what looked like heavy fog. Turns out we were seeing the smoke from a wildfire in Canyonville which was 50 miles away. On our way to Seaside we passed by the wildfire which was actively burning.
Arrived:Seaside Oregon
It was quite chilly with a pretty big wind.
Seaside Oregon is the location of the end of the trial for Louis and Clark
The water temperature was unbelievably cold. I mean so cold that it made me have flashbacks to the ice bath after two a day volleyball practices in college. The boys played it in no problem.
The featured dish at every restaurant was the Clam Chowder. Maw Maw and Bob took turns taste testing each night and discussing which one was the best.
One of our favorite things to see was after the sunset, many families would set up a campfire on the beach. It was so cool to see them all over the place.
One morning we got up and walked the beach and got so lucky stumbling upon the sand dollar jackpot. I have never in my life found a sand dollar in the wild and this was amazing. We collected so many that we had a hard time carrying them all. We even found baby ones.
We were shocked by the amount of crab that washed up on shore. They were all over the place and all dead. I thought if we picked up all the pieces we could eat well for dinner one night...no one else agreed.
Dungeness Crab graveyard
Haystack Rock Beach was on the other side of our hotel so we explored. It was crazy how windy and cold it was on this side compared to our hotel beach.
Relaxing while watching a show in the morning
We were so happy to see the coast of Oregon and amazed by it's beauty. Next and final stop, Seattle, Washington.
The trip to Seaside was over five hours and we made some stops along the way to break up the drive. We stumbled upon a winery set back off the road and it was a perfect to stop for a sip, potty, and stretch our legs.
