Michigan for the weekend

The third weekend in August marks the big event: The Childrens Challenge (aka kids mudder). This is one of our favorite traditions.  Now we take advantage of staying with Aunt Katie and Jeremy for the weekend.
Friday afternoon we arrived at Aunt Katie's house and within minutes we were out on the boat ready for fun.

All three boys out on the tube! Faster, faster!

Cool dude!

Aunt Katie was very brave!

On our summer bucket list the boys were sure to write "Go Fishing"...that one is always saved for a trip out on the boat with Uncle Jeremy.  Nolan was sure to remind us several times about the bass he caught last year and was hoping to catch that same bass this trip.

He didn’t get the bass this year, but he did catch quite a few other fish.

Each boy was able to reel in a fish of their own

These are the coolest boys I know!

Thanks so much Uncle Jeremy for your patience with these boys and for helping us check off another thing off our summer bucket list.

Mac and cheese with corn on the cob...yes please!

The Children's Challenge is something we get excited about each year.  This is Nolan's first year of participating in this event.  Ashton, Lauryn's oldest son, joined the boys too!

At the start of the race, they line up all the kids.  They announced that the younger runners or first time runners should stay at one end and the veterans should stay at the other end.  Carter was very worried about Nolan and he insisted in staying with him from the beginning.  He ran right beside him and was cheering him on.  It was so thoughtful but we wanted them both to be able to run their best race on their own.  We encouraged Carter to let Nolan run it on his own...Nolan rocked it and Carter took off.

Landon looked so strong while running the race the whole way!

Nolan climbed up the highest walls each time he was faced with them throughout the race.

Best smile

Carter was so determined to catch up to the front after guiding Nolan...he had to work hard to gain ground on the other racers.

One of the new obstacles they had was a foam tunnel.  It was so fun to watch them run through the wall of soap bubbles.

Once Carter and Landon finished the race, they ran back to run with Nolan as he ended the race...may have cried a bit about this.  I love the bond they share.

Carter finished first and Landon finished second...that was a tough hard earned achievement!  Nolan and Ashton finished strong too!

Julie and Ashton had a great time together!

Family Selfie at the finish

After a quick hose down and clean clothes, we jumped back on the boat to tube together!

We love our time together with family in Michigan!
