Settled In
We have officially moved back to Ohio! The last week of June the movers showed up to our house in Michigan. Two men, lots of cardboard, tape, and a huge semi truck! They spent the first day packing the truck with all of our things that we had shoved into the storage unit. At times they would have to unpack our boxes and repack them so the moving company would insure them. Tuesday was pouring down rain and they had to move the remainder of our things. They loaded the boxes from the garage and a room in the house into the truck then they had to pack the rest of our things. I love the simplicity of having someone pack for you but it's hard to watch someone pack your things without being able to organize it. During this time the boys were out of control...running through the house jumping over boxes, using boxes as tunnels, and getting into the way. I quickly made the decision to head to the Treehouse to wear out the boys. Once we returned our whole house was in boxes except the mattresses on the floor and toilet paper. On Wednesday morning Bob and I woke up at the butt crack of dawn and drove with Nolan to Ohio to sign papers for the house at 9am. My mom stayed back with the boys until they woke up and then loaded them into the van to head to Ohio. The movers stopped over and packed the mattresses and then drove to Ohio. Later that day we got the keys and entered the new house...for the first time!
Emotions were overwhelming as we went through our new house and take in all that it is. Carter said, "I'm ready to live here." That was such a great feeling to finally be able to know it is a house to make our home.
Early the next morning the movers arrived and from 8am-3pm unloaded every item that belonged to us. You don't realize how much you have until it is packed in boxes and then you have to unload it and decide where it should go. Every time we emptied a box we would ring a bell to celebrate. Towards the end of the day I was begging the movers to leave the rest on the truck.
What better way to move into a new house than to invite your whole family to come and help unload boxes, organize, and change things! We were so lucky to have everyone here and willing to help out with whatever we needed. By the time everyone left on Monday all the boxes were unloaded, new furniture built, curtains sewn, garage organized, ceiling fan mounted, and light fixtures replaced. We all kicked butt!
My favorite part has been decorating the house to make it our own. We are painting some rooms and updating minor things to make it look great! Pictures of renovations will follow very soon!
The neighbors that surround us have been very welcoming and many of them have children. The neighborhood is very homey and we have been on many walks and bike rides already.
The boys are pretty confused with trying to understand where "their friends" are. They often assume that a friend from Michigan will be at a playdate here in Ohio. It breaks my heart to have to tell them that we won't be able to see them as much as we did. Carter said to me the other day, "Mommy are we meeting more new friends today?" I know this will get better but it is hard when you miss those friends a lot too!
We are happy to be together in a home that we can finally unpack boxes and know we will be here for awhile!
