Playgroup: Parents As Teachers (PAT)

A little over two weeks ago we began participating in a play group called Parents As Teachers.  This is a group of parents and children between the ages of 0-preschool meet for one hour Monday-Thursday.  The kids have free play for 40 minutes and then we have circle time for the remaining.  The teacher is a certified teacher who creates activities and projects based on a weekly theme.  There are centers set up around this theme for the kids to play with.  The first week was transportation: trucks, trains, and cars.  This was a great week for Carter.  We painted school buses made from egg cartons, created fire trucks and fire from tissue paper, drove cars through brown paint and then scrubbed them clean, etc.  We sang the wheels on the bus, a rocket into space song, and a garbage truck chant.  Last week the theme was apples.  They painted with apple pieces, created an apple tree with handprints, and had an apple tasting.  I am a sucker for the art projects.  We have so much fun doing them together.  Sometimes Landon is a little less interested than Carter but for the most part we all get them done.  They have a sand table and water table set up.  That is Landon's favorite station.  He is usually soaked within 2 minutes at the water table and covered in sand just a quick.  We all love this program!  We jump in the wagon on nice days and walk 15 minutes to get to the school for play group.  Since we have started going to this play group I have met quite a few moms that I finally feel that I fit in with.  On Thursday night we had a "girls nite".  Around 8pm we got together to chat and drink wine.  I can't tell you the last time I did that...I had a blast!
