Week Two: Corona Virus (March 23-27)

We continue to be at home and are trying very hard to find ways to keep ourselves busy.  Bob continues to work from home while the boys were having spring break and I am teaching.  Yep, it's a zoo...we are well aware of that.
This week our neighborhood decided to do a "chalk the walk".  This was a time where we were encouraged to use sidewalk chalk to draw pictures and write positive notes on the sidewalks in our neighborhood.

Next, we hopped into the car and drove to Castalia Fish Hatchery to feed all of our moldy frozen bread to the steelhead trout.  Every time we finish a loaf of bread or it goes bad before we can eat it all, instead of tossing it out, we toss it in the basement freezer and then take it to the hatchery to feed the fish.  Needless to say, our freezer was full...like a garbage bag full of old bread, that needed to be fed!

The boys go through waves of great brotherly behavior, Wrestlemania, and downright rage. Here is a moment of pure bliss where they are creating perler bead creatures together!

Since it was spring break for the boys, they did not have any academic content to complete from their teachers.  This was a nice break for them but it created a lot of downtime that needed to be structured to maintain the peace.  I created some "life skill" activities for them to learn.  The first one was how to use the iron.

Next they had to make and cook their own lunch.  It was fine dining here at the Boone house when spaghettio's and grilled cheese are being made.

They even learned how to wash and dry dishes by hand!  I am considering this a win!

This week was my first attempt at a whole class meeting with my students in my class.  I taught on Facebook live every morning but I am unable to see them.  With Zoom, I can see them and they can see me and the rest of their classmates.  This was so cool!  It brought tears to my eyes to see these sweet kids and they were so excited to tell me everything.

Maw Maw picked up a pot holder loom from goodwill awhile back but we didn't have time to use it until now.  Boys watched a youtube tutorial video to figure it out!

Facebook is full of ideas that people are doing to keep their kids busy and this was an idea I saw.  Using painters tape, you tape designs on the windows and let your kids paint with washable paint on the glass.

They had a blast and it kept them busy for over 30 minutes!

The temperatures were decent so we tried hard to get out in nature any chance we could.

This was another moment that made my heart happy...Carter reading to the boys as they eat the macaroni and cheese they made.

Family bike rides were a nightly tradition.  After not riding a bike in years and then jumping on it for a few consecutive days really can make you sore in strange places.

Time for more home projects:  The boys had been asking for a foul line and three point line in the driveway for the basketball hoop.  Bob taped it off and they helped paint the lines.  Lots of hoops going on in the driveway now!

Laundry room update: Before photo

Fresh coat of paint on the walls: light blueish gray

Finished: new luxury vinyl tile and paint...I am trying hard to convince him that the cabinets would look amazing painted white along with the trim work...give me some time to persuade.  I need a new curtain too! Hard working Bob!!

More family bike rides!
Week Two complete...how many more of these weeks can we handle?
