Spring breakers 2018

Spring Break was an event we have been looking forward to since the moment we booked it months ago.  As soon as we got out of school on Thursday we jumped in the car and headed out on the road.

It was cold and rainy during the trip down.  We stopped for dinner in Mansfield area and when we got out Carter and Landon slipped and slid down a muddy hill on their bottoms.  They were covered in mud on their backsides.  We made it to Cincinnati for the first night.  The hotel had this cool art screen that the boys enjoyed drawing and creating masterpieces.

Up the next morning early we started our drive.  The traffic was very heavy and we didn't make as good of time as we had hoped for.  We quick jumped off the highway for an impromptu stop at the Louisville Slugger Museum.

It is the 20th anniversary of the movie The Sandlot so there were quite a few exhibits set up for them.
The boys got a chance to use the batting cages within the museum.

There is never a dull moment when it comes to our family that is a guarantee.  While driving in heavy traffic I looked back to see Landon with a wad of chewed bubble gum over his eye.  When he tried to pull it off, it was stickier than he thought.  His eyelashes were stuck to his eyelids.  Oh, that kid!  Thank goodness he decided to bring a pirate patch along because it came in handy.

We arrived in Panama City Beach, Florida!  We stayed at the Lakeside Wharf. It was a beautiful resort just right across the street from the beach.  Aunt Katie and Angie were already there waiting for us to arrive.  Sunday was Easter Morning!  The Easter Bunny hid eggs all over the room and brought enough candy to give everyone a cavity.  Aunt Katie and Grandma gave the boys a basket of goodies and their own boogie boards to use in the ocean.

Beach bunnies!

We spent as much time as we could at the beach soaking in the sun and sand.  The first day we were there we were shocked by how crispy we all got.  You forget how hot the sun is when you haven't felt it's warmth in months.  Each one of us got sunburned even with reapply sunscreen.  My feet were red as lobsters for quite a few days...ouchie mama.

Bob remembered to bring the water skimmer board, Maw Maw had picked up at her favorite store (goodwill).  The boys had a blast mastering this skill of shore surfing.  Landon could have done it from sun up to sun down only stopping to eat cheesy Pringles.

Yep, here I am in my relaxation station...at the beach with a book in my hand watching the boys have a blast jumping waves...just what the doctor ordered!

Beach fun!

An added bonus of having Aunt Katie and Grandma with us is that we got a chance to sneak away for a date night.  Bob and I ate at a restaurant called Firefly.  We had a wonderful time together.

There was a Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum right down from the resort.  Grandma, Bob, and the boys went down on a rainy day.  Their favorite part was the 7D ride where you could shoot monsters and werewolves.

We all played miniature golf at a jungle animal themed course.  The boys are so competitive with each other.

Landon has been so interested in eating at a Waffle House for awhile.  He had already called "dibs" on it being his birthday dinner place.  Aunt Katie helped to fulfill his life dream of eating at a Waffle House.  She gathered the boys and took them for a special breakfast with her.

When they returned all they could talk about was how their waffles were the whole size of their plates!

Boone family snuggles

In the pond that was on the resort there were turtles that would come the surface and we could watch them swim around.  Each evening around dinnertime, there would be a large gator that would surface right by the edge of the gate.  We would look for him each day.  Nolan almost always seemed to spot it first.

The resort had multiple pools and hot tubs at all different levels.  The temperature of the pools were quite chilly but the boys had no problem doing cannonballs in.

Riding the waves in!

Landon was hardly ever seen without his Michigan football.  We were throwing it in the room, in the resort lobby, at the beach, etc.  This boys loves to be active!

Early morning elephant Ears while the rain came down.

After the boys were in bed we all worked on getting "beautiful".

Yup. We love vacations!
On Thursday morning we jumped in the car and headed to Atlanta.  We had just enough time to tour the World of Coca-Cola.

Being silly with the statue of the founder of Coke

Nolan is hiding but the rest of us are excited to enter!

The enjoyed the "tasting room".  This was where they had over 100 different flavors of products that Coke supplies worldwide.  Carter was hitting the soda hard, while Landon and Nolan couldn't get enough Powerade.  Needless to say we stopped my that room 3 times before we left!

In the Pop Culture section, each boy had a chance to create their very own Coke label.  They were so creative!

We even snagged a quick photo with the Coca-Cola Polar Bear!

Our hotel was right downtown Atlanta so we could walk to everything we needed to see.  The outdoor hot tub was on the 7th floor.  The boys spent most of their time out here.

The next morning we spent the whole day at the Atlanta Aquarium.  This was an incredible place that I would recommend to everyone I know.

There was a tank full of fish, 4 whale sharks, 4 manta rays, and countless colorful fish that we could have watched for hours.  It was mind blowing how graceful these large creatures could be.

Carter and Angie participated in a dolphin encounter.  They were able to go behind the scenes and feed, train, and play with the dolphins.

Nolan was not old enough to participate in the encounters so he was able to choose something from the gift shop.  Out of all the things there, he chose this small little gator which he has named Bite-ie!

They had three beluga whales that were so fun to watch.

Landon loves penguins!!  He spent a lot of time watching them at the exhibit.  Bob and I surprised Landon with a behind the scenes penguin encounter.  We got to see and pet a real penguin. Landon was so excited!

He carried this photo around for the rest of the day.
Atlanta was a fun city that I hope we can make it back to so we can check out more it has to offer.
Our last hotel was just outside of Cincinnati...it was the boys last chance to swim and use the fitness center!

Traffic was smooth sailing on our way home and we are so thankful for our safe travels.  This break was just what we needed to get us through to the end of the school year.

When we arrived home we found that a wind storm caused our only tree in the backyard to fall.  We are so lucky that it didn't fall on the neighbors fence or the shed but we are so sad to see it go.  The boys and I have loved it from the moment we moved in.  They have spent many days climbing it, making it a rainbow tree with wet chalk, hanging bird houses from it's branches, and peeing on its roots.  Rest in Peace, rainbow tree.
