First day of school

Image
School is back in session... This school year starts with quite a few new changes.  After much thought we have decided to have the boys move schools to Amherst Schools.  Since we moved back to Ohio from Michigan we have lived in  the city of Amherst but since I teach in Vermilion I have taken the boys to school with me.  We talk every year about whether they should make the move and this year was the year. The boys were excited because they know quite a few friends from the neighborhood and also from sports teams they play on. Can you believe Nolan is going into kindergarten this year?  I know me neither...how did it happen so fast?  Nolan lucked out and his teacher, Mrs. Lawson is a teacher who I used to teach with.  It made this transition so easy for me and him! The boys were so looking forward to riding the bus with their neighborhood friends. Change can be difficult and hard but lucky for us the start of this year has been smooth a...

Endless summer memories

Image
We made so many memories during the summer that I had to combine them into one long post.  Oh, it is so evident that summer is our absolute favorite time of year.  As we check things off our summer bucket list it made me recognize how many things we have done have quickly become a tradition that we all look forward to. Paddle boating at the Lake Erie Metroparks...this is a wonderful activity we do that is free and perfect for all of us to enjoy Bowling at the new bowling alley in Vermilion We found a new park in Lakewood and it was amazing.  There was an aerial park that the boys could cross over suspension bridges and walkways.  There was this cool saucer swing the boys loved. The summer visit to Menchies Ice Cream where they can choose their own toppings...$35 later...glad that is only a once a year trip! The Balloon Man came to the local library for the summer reading celebration.  Each child was able to choose which creation they wanted him t...

Kids Mudder

Image
Every year for the past three years, the boys have competed in the Children's Challenge in Brooklynn Michigan.  They look forward to this great event each year.  We drove up early Saturday morning and made it just in time for them to race.  Each one of them impress me each year with how well they do and how hard they push themselves. Landon running hard. Carter sliding out of the muddy tunnels   Cheering Landon as he ran past...he is blowing kisses to me as he ran by. Carter was in first place until this point...this was a new station within the race.  They had to pull a 5 gallon bucket filled with water to the top.  He was so bummed that the two older boys passed him at this time. Crawling through the muddy puddles under the fences Carter ended up in 2nd place in their group of kids ages 4-14.  Landon wasn't too far behind him either. Nolan didn't run it this year but at the end he slid down the mud slide to the finish and t...

The 2nd annual couples trip!

Image
We vowed to make a couples getaway a priority once a year and we were excited to get away with the Truax's.  Maw Maw and Paw Paw watched the boys while we were gone.  Thursday morning we jumped on a plane and headed to Treasure Island, FL. The weather was amazing when we arrived.  We started out by the pool and then headed out to the beach. The ocean was so calm and the water temperature was the warmest I have ever felt.  We waded out quite far shuffling our feet not to step on top of stingrays.  We stumbled upon this beautiful conch shell on the ocean floor. I picked it up to see a closer look.  The creature was still alive inside and when I held it out of the water it spit salt water right in my face after this photo was taken.   Enjoying the ocean waves with Phil and Alissa   We didn't rent a car  because we were within walking distance from many sights to see.  We walked over the bridge to Medira Beach.  It w...
