Halloween

Image
Today is Halloween!  It started out with a Halloween party at Parents As Teachers playgroup.  The boys were going to be cowboys. Landon refused to wear his cowboy boots and the boots were the only thing that Carter would wear.  It was quite a morning.  After that craziness I decided I better go and find something that they would wear.  I went first with the boys to a second hand store and it was very picked over and there wasn't anything in their size.  I then went to Old Navy.  When we walked in Carter took off running to the back of the store, lightening fast.  I jogged after him with Landon on my hip.  I found Carter climbing through racks of clothes.  I asked him to come out and he yelled "No, Mommy, No!" at the top of his lungs.  I decided to put Landon down to climb in after Carter.  I got Carter out of the clothes and he was a limp noodle, he refused to stand up.  I look over and Landon is unloading every...

A Visit to Columbus

Image
This weekend we took a trip to Columbus to visit my sister.  She is currently 5 months pregnant and they just found out they are having a baby girl.  We are so excited and love seeing her bump grow.  She hosted a 31 party Friday night which was a blast.  On Saturday we headed over to Freeman's farm on the outskirts of Westerville for one last pumpkin patch.  We met my cousins there with their two kids.  Erin is 5 and Tyler is 5 weeks younger than Landon.  We ate kettle corn, roasted hot dogs over the fire, pet sheep, and checked out pumpkins. We then headed over to the Columbus Zoo for Boo at the Zoo.  They have stations set up around the zoo for the kids to trick or treat while seeing the animals.  We got rained on a few times but all in all it was fun.  On the way to my parents house Saturday we stopped in a small town where we trunk or treated.  This was where various business would pull in a car and open their t...

More Fall Fun

A few new Carter stories for the week! Last week when we started bathtime Carter was ready to jump in the tub.  In the nude he ran to the top of the stairs and shook his hips back and forth while singing "Chicka bom bom." Not sure where this came from but Bob and I cracked up laughing! Just recently the boys have started to become very interested in each other's parts.  One day while I was changing Carter's diaper, Landon came up and grabbed Carter's penis.  I said, "Yucky, don't touch Carter's penis. That's yucky." Later that day Landon had a stinky diaper.  Carter said to me, "Me see Landon's turd." So I opened Landon's diaper and there was poo everywhere.  Carter said, "Oh yucky, poo on Landon's peanuts."  I laughed my butt off! Landon is so ornery.  He does a lot of watching what Carter does and then copies exactly what he does.  This past week Carter got sick in the middle of the night so we had a bucket...

Beautiful weekend in October

Image
This weekend was beautiful!  The weather was great so we took advantage of doing lots of fun fall things.  On Saturday we had to pick up our race packets for the Big House Big Heart 5k.  The expo was held at a high school and it had a kids zone to keep the kids busy.  They had 2 bouncy houses and a face painting clown.  Carter was a maniac in the bouncy house.  He loved it.  Bob suggested getting his face painted and I was sure that he would not want to do it but I was pleasantly surprised.  I asked him whether he wanted to be a monkey or a tiger and he chose a tiger.  The clown was very talented and it turned out great!  After the expo we headed to a pumpkin patch.  It was so stinkin cool.  They had lots of things set up for the kids to play with and climb on.  There were animals to feed, a fake cow to milk, a corn box instead of a sand box, a wooden train, and much more.  After the kids played we rode a tractor pull...

Playgroup: Parents As Teachers (PAT)

Painting together...Landon ate the paint!  Carter toots his own horn Carter was filling up the gas tank A little over two weeks ago we began participating in a play group called Parents As Teachers.  This is a group of parents and children between the ages of 0-preschool meet for one hour Monday-Thursday.  The kids have free play for 40 minutes and then we have circle time for the remaining.  The teacher is a certified teacher who creates activities and projects based on a weekly theme.  There are centers set up around this theme for the kids to play with.  The first week was transportation: trucks, trains, and cars.  This was a great week for Carter.  We painted school buses made from egg cartons, created fire trucks and fire from tissue paper, drove cars through brown paint and then scrubbed them clean, etc.  We sang the wheels on the bus, a rocket into space song, and a garbage truck chant.  Last week the theme was appl...

Potty training 101

So I decided that Carter was ready to be potty trained!  I bought him 3 pairs of Toy Story underpants and put them on him early Monday morning.  Within 15 minutes he had peed through them.  I changed him and we read the potty book along with review his rewards if he peed on the potty.  I began to sit him on the potty every 30 minutes.  He would sit there, watch TV, and read a book.  I am telling you that literally 5 minutes after that whole procedure he would pee in his underpants.  We went through the three pairs in less than 90 minutes.  I decided to them just let him run around the house in the nude.  This strategy didn't seem to work either.  He was still peeing and pooping everywhere.  I spent most of the day cleaning up the floor.  I noticed that he would tell me after he was finished but didn't really seem to know that is was going to happen.  I spoke with other moms the following day for some insight in what to do....
